“I am writing this with a mix of respect for the staff and deep frustration regarding the environment. While the teaching at this center is truly outstanding—and my son genuinely loves his instructors—the social atmosphere has become intolerable due to persistent bullying and 'mean' behavior from other students.
It is heartbreaking and unacceptable for a child to come home disappointed and sad from a place they otherwise love.
Great teachers are not enough if the administration fails to provide a safe space.
We love this place and the educators here, but my son's well-being is my first priority.
You need to have a clear anti-bullying policy.”

“Overall, they are really good at hosting tournaments. They also are clean. There are a few drawbacks, though. The first one is that the place is small and you can feel cramped. Also, they don't provide snacks. In return, they have skittles rooms with boards. Overall, not bad!”
“Always a learning experience-
Competing in the Sunday Swiss’s with my brother, such a fun group of people!”
“The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to help players of all levels improve their game. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the community here is passionate and supportive. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned player, this place has something for everyone. I’ve learned so much and had a great time doing it. Highly recommend to anyone who loves chess or wants to get started!”
“We've had a very positive experience with Texas Chess Center. Over the past two years, my son's chess skills have noticeably improved, and so has his confidence. He’s now beating me occasionally — and I consider myself pretty good at the game!
One of the biggest advantages is the consistent opportunity for competitive play. The weekly Swiss tournaments, most of which are held right at the Plano location, are extremely convenient. Scholastic tournaments are also hosted there frequently, which is great.
I also appreciate the flexibility of online, hybrid, and in-person formats — it really helps with scheduling. The open play sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays are another fantastic feature for anyone looking to practice and improve.
Overall, Texas Chess Center offers a strong environment for anyone serious about learning and growing in chess.”
