“The Camp Fern Legacy board and directors had just one year to put Fern back together and restart discarded traditions. They had their work cut out for them but with the help of many many generous donors, volunteers and organizers they did it! Camp has been restored and revitalized in a way that is tangible as soon as you pass through those stone gates. My daughter just got back from her last year as a camper and stated that it was the best year she’d had at camp in a very long time. The vibe around camp was positive, fun, lighthearted and grateful. The food was delicious. She came back with new skills in archery and an appreciation for all that has been done for the campers of Fern. On the parent side communication was frequent, you could always get in touch with directors and the daily pictures were beautiful. Most importantly my daughter had fun being a kid at camp one last time. Thank you to the board. Thank you to Suzy, Erica and Duval. Thank you to the counselors and staff. Thank you to the donors and volunteers and the parents who sent their kids this first summer of Camp Fern Legacy. Our family is truly grateful. It was a wonderful month that exceed our hopeful expectations.”
“Camp Fern Legacy is the original CF on Lake Fern in Marshall, TX. It’s a remarkable, magical place where families send their children for generations. I attended for several years and learned skills I’ve used all my life, made lifelong friendships, even professional connections. The Camp is very nurturing, inclusive of all faiths and personalities. My family gave up some things so I could go to Camp Fern Legacy, and it is the greatest gift I’ve ever been given.”
“Camp Fern is, quite simply, magical. During my summers there I learned more than just what was taught in classes, like teamwork, how to live with others who may be different than you, what it feels like to have an older sister in the form of a counselor, and how to get along with other girls from age 5 to 25. I've taken Camp Fern lessons from college to my career. Many generations of my family have attended and all hold Fern near and dear to their hearts to this day.”
“East TX in the summer at its very best. Kids don’t just fish, canoe, water ski, ride horses, shoot bows, learn survival, climb high ropes elements, swim, etc - they learn how to do these things with improved skill over time. I’m so proud of my seven year old for taking the ferny plunge, and so proud of the CFL team for embracing the past while always seeking feedback and improvement. CFL is an all-inclusive institution led by a dynamic group of thoughtful individuals whose priority is obviously showing kids a pathway towards self-accomplishment, spiritual-connection, fun, and commitment to others. There is no place like Camp Fern at Fern Lake.”
